Special events

In addition to a week of exciting races, the 2020 CKC Sprint National Championships will be holding a number of special events for athletes, parents, coaches, officials, sponsors and VIPs throughout the week.   The following is a tentative list of some of things we have planned for next summer.

OPENING CEREMONIES

The 2020 CKC Sprint National Championship will be held on unceded Algonquin, Anishinabek territory at Mooney’s Bay.  In recognition of the origins of our sport, we are planning an opening ceremony and series of events to honour this heritage.  These will take place throughout the day on Tuesday, August 25th.   Details to follow in Spring 2020.

COMMODORE’S RECEPTION HONOURING OUR 2020 OLYMPIANS

This reception will be the “Can’t Miss” event for the Canoe Kayak Canada family, including alumni, event sponsors, and parents of all athletes participating at the 2020 Nationals.   It’s an opportunity to celebrate our sport, recognize our achievements, and to honour the Team Canada returning from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.  More details to follow in Spring 2020

National Team Autograph Sessions

Throughout the week, Canada’s 2020 Olympic Athletes will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures at the National Championships.   These “Meet and Greet” sessions will be free and open to the public.

ALUMNI RECEPTION

The popular annual Alumni Reception will be held onsite in the Hospitality Tent on Friday afternoon.

Details to follow in Spring 2020.

Junior Dance

The most talked about event for our U16-U18 paddlers is the annual Junior Dance.   The Junior Dance will be held on Friday evening at a very cool, yet-to-be-disclosed location in Ottawa.   Tentative plans are also being made for parents looking to meet and socialize while their paddlers are out celebrating a successful 2020 Nationals.
